Mauritius weddings

All weddings in Mauritius are civil weddings and are recognised by UK law. Almost all hotels on the island will guarantee only one wedding at day. Weddings take place Monday through Friday only and do not take place on Mauritius public holidays. If you’re planning on getting married in Mauritius, our advice is book early so you can guarantee your special day. All Mauritius hotels have a wedding coordinator; they organise everything for you from flowers, hair &make-up to cakes and dinners. To celebrate your wedding in Mauritius, the following documents are required by the Civil Status Office in Mauritius. Copies of these documents must be supplied when you book and originals must betaken with you to the island.

Copies of passports (photo and information pages)
Copies of birth certificates (issued and dated not more than 3 months before your wedding date)
Copies of the divorce certificate or certificate of death of spouse when applicable
Deed Poll if name has been changed
Copies of adoption papers if applicable
An application form (supplied by us) duly filled in and signed by the future bride and groom

Non English documentation must be translated into English and stamped by an official translator. New UK birth certificates must be ordered online here. The date of issue must be no earlier than 3 months prior to the wedding date, so please do not order these too early. We advise to use the priority ordering service. If the bride-to-be has been divorced in the last 10 months, she will need a Mauritian Doctor’s certificate of non-pregnancy. There is a charge for the test and certificate.
